Courtney Schmechel (Hurley) is a photographer originally from the Central Pennsylvania region.

Courtney has been passionate about photography from the first time that she was able to use her dad’s Minolta film camera at a young age. Her parents instantly recognized her passion for the arts and signed her up for nighttime adult-education photography courses while she was a young teenager in middle school, and it was there that her passion for film and the darkroom was born. She went onto high school taking every photography, art, and ceramic course that she could. Courtney then went on to graduate college from Columbia College Chicago earning a Bachelors Degree in Art & Design with a concentration in Photography.

Courtney’s work spans from fashion, architecture, portraits and beyond. She has trained with Chicago’s very own Helen Berkun of Miss Red photography, she has interned with National Geographic Photographer Steve McCurry, and apprenticed under Philadelphia’s wonderful Karen Carey, a legend in film photography. In her more recent years, Courtney has worked with some of Philadelphia’s Mainline businesses including Laura Ernst Interiors, Avenue One Building Group, Frey Boutique, Doylestown’s leading Real Estate Group - Class Harlan Real Estate, Northeast Color and many more.

Courtney is passionate about the arts and health. In her free time when she’s not photographing, you can find her taking courses to learn about holistic health and herbal remedies, playing with her three toddlers, going on dates with her best friend and husband, running her nonprofit S.O.S. or making soap.
